OrionTek Partners
Platform architecture, cloud cost structure, and engineering organization design are not separate problems. OrionTek Partners works across all three because the technical strategy and the organization that executes it have to be built together.
Distributed systems at scale require architectural decisions that compound in cost, in reliability, and in the speed at which engineering teams can move. We work with engineering leaders on the structural and technical choices that determine how a platform behaves under growth.
Cloud spend is one of the fastest-growing line items for technology companies and one of the least understood at the leadership level. We bring FinOps discipline, architecture modernization experience, and vendor negotiation depth to help engineering organizations control cost without compromising capability.
The structure of an engineering organization shapes the architecture it produces. We work with CTOs and engineering VPs on team design, operating models, career frameworks, and the cultural shifts from discrete functions to end-to-end ownership that determine whether technical strategy actually gets executed.
OrionTek Partners advises early and growth-stage technology companies on the engineering and organizational decisions that determine whether a platform scales. Principal Chris Derby brings nearly thirty years of experience as both an operator and advisor. At Smaato, he rebuilt the engineering operating model from discrete development and operations functions to product teams with full end-to-end ownership, shortening feedback loops and eliminating release debt across the organization.
The same program helped deliver $66M in infrastructure cost savings over four years on a platform that scaled from billions to over one trillion real-time transactions daily. As Head of Cloud Adoption at idealo, he held a matrixed mandate across a 400+ person engineering organization to accelerate and complete the migration of 100+ applications from on-premise to AWS on time, on budget, and with 99%+ platform stability throughout. OrionTek Partners has operated continuously since 1997.
OrionTek Partners works with a small number of clients at any time. Engagements are typically three to four months, shaped around a specific platform, infrastructure, or organizational challenge, though longer retained relationships are not uncommon. We do not typically take on engagements shorter than 90 days.
We work remotely or on-site depending on what the engagement requires. Any necessary travel and expenses are covered by the client.
If you are facing a decision about platform architecture, cloud infrastructure strategy, or engineering organization design and want a senior perspective, the best starting point is a conversation.
